The Chronicles of Father Robin: The Songs & Tales of Airoea – Book III

Step once more into the whimsical realm of Airoea, where The Chronicles of Father Robin, Norway's illustrious purveyor of progressive folk-rock, unveils their latest auditory tale, The Songs & Tales of Airoea -Book III. In this fantastical journey, listeners are whisked away on an adventure teeming with magic, mystery and enough excitement to make a dragon nod in approval.

Ethereal melodies and sweeping orchestration transport listeners to distant lands. Yet the album only lasts for 33 minutes or so and traverses quickly since there is no filler material whatsoever. Each track imparts gorgeous melodies via Andreas Wettergreen Strømman Prestmo's suave and airy vocals amid accenting guitars and delightful synth lines. The music contains quite a bit of depth and is superbly mixed. Each song serves as a chapter in a larger narrative, weaving together tales of love, nature and otherworldly presences.

"Cloudship" is about a lustrous journey, rebirth and victory, capturing the whimsy often heard within 1970s prog rock and psychedelia musings. One of the album's standout tracks is "Empress of the Sun," featuring a straightforward rock pulse with memorable hooks and golden-toned vocal choruses. Hence, a soaring anthem about the Empress of the Sun who is a deity, "glowing with the pure godly life."

The band performs "Lost in the Palace Gardens" with an engaging acoustic guitar melody amid genial folk-like vocals with accenting drums and keys. They open it up with guest artist Hakon Oftung or one of the other multitasking artists' perky organ voicings that contrast the vocals and guitars as they raise the pitch and move on with yet another enticing melodious adventure.

The production of Book III is nothing short of stellar, with each instrument and vocal performance given the space to shine. Every sonic detail has been meticulously crafted to perfection, from the majestic acoustic-electric arrangements to the subtle nuances of the electronic elements. The Songs & Tales of Airoea -Book III invites listeners on a transformative journey through realms of fantasy and wonder. Beyond its thematic depth, the album is a triumph of production and craftsmanship.
